What is Haiku?

QuillHaiku is a form of poetry, which originated in Japan. It consists of three lines. The first line has five syllables, the second line has seven syllables, and the third line has five syllables. The Japanese form is more pristine than the English version, in that they don’t count syllables so much as sounds, so we usually get a little more latitude on how much content we can put in. Also the Japanese tend to write theirs about nature- we think it’s fun to write about hookers and blow. If you’re a lover of fine poetry or prose, well versed (snicker) in the fine art of composition, LVH probably isn’t the site for you. Unless you dig strippers and all night parties while your best friend bets the rent- then by all means contribute. We’re not very good, and could use all the help we can get. Submit your Las Vegas Haiku here. Great stuff gets published. Hell, we’ll publish the bad stuff too- just don’t be mediocre.
